This position performs maintenance to the campus landscape, roads, walkways, and off site properties of the University of Richmond at a high level of expectation. The Applicant must be able to perform duties that require moderately heavy physical effort requiring the ability to use power equipment and hand tools.
Removes trash and litter from campus grounds.
Mow, trim, edge and blow lawn areas using riding mowers, push mowers, and weedeaters, blowers, etc. to a high level of precision. Aerate, overseed, apply fertilizer, and water to maintain growth in lawn areas.
Removes leaves and tree debris from lawn areas and dispose of collected debris.
Plants, trims, mulches, weeds and fertilizes flowers, shrubs and trees as directed or as necessary to insure proper standards are maintained.
Operates equipment on grades and slopes, cut trees and branches with chain saws, pole saws, axes and hand held saws
Operates chainsaws on trees that are dead or have fallen and blocking roadways, walks, and paths that lead to campus.
Repairs and maintains campus walkways, roads, benches signs, light poles and fountains by cleaning, painting, patching, etc.
Removal of snow and ice. Applies sand and chemicals in all areas of campus as directed using hand shovels, brooms, power snow blowers, tractors and trucks equipped with blades and spreaders. This position is considered essential personnel during snow events and is expected to be actively involved in getting the campus in a safe condition for our community.
Performs operator maintenance on vehicles and equipment including checking fluids, belts, tires, lights.
Operates large diesel and gasoline powered equipment including backhoe, skidsteer, snow brushes, snow blowers, forklift, tractor, etc.
Informs Supervisor of completed work tasks and conditions of campus grounds

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT
Capable of working in all types of weather conditions such as rain, flooding, snow, ice, hot and cold temperatures
Physically capable of working while bending, stooping, kneeling
Physically capable of heavy lifting (minimum 50 pounds).
Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance and the equipment required to perform ground maintenance duties.
Basic knowledge of grounds keeping and elementary horticultural practices and procedures.
Some knowledge of the pruning and trimming requirements of shrubs and trees.
Basic knowledge of the safe use and operation of hand and power tools used in grounds keeping.
Ability to safely use hand and power tools after given instruction and training.
Must be able to remember and follow directions in performing daily landscape maintenance tasks.
REQUIRED: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED
Prior work experience in landscape maintenancepreferred
Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; 8 hours a day; 40 hours per week; flexibility required.
All Facilities employees are designated as essential personnel, and are subject to work outside the normal work schedule on an emergency basis, and are also subject to planned overtime work as required by the immediate supervisor.
SALARY STRUCTURE: Pay Grade 1 (Hourly rate starting at $11.30 per hour)
